Sam & Max: Coming To The Wii

The Adventure/Puzzle genre has had a pretty interesting history. In the early-mid 90’s, the adventure/puzzle genre was in its’ hay day with titles such as “The Secret Of Monkey Island”, “Curse Of Monkey Island”, Grim Fandango, Sam & Max: Hit The Road. After this surge in releases, the genre started to lay dormant. It has stayed pretty dormant ever since, with just a few titles here and there to keep it alive.

I believe that if any system can bring back the greatness that was, Adventure/Puzzle games it’s the Wii. Capcom has already proven it can be successful with its’ release of Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros’ Treasure. This game oozed with cartoonish flare, and brought back the same feeling that the old adventure puzzlers once did (hair pulling frustration, until you figure out what it is you actually need to do).

TellTale Games looks as though it has faith in the Wii as well, as they will be releasing Sam & Max: Season 1 for it. The original Sam & Max was released in 1993. In October, 2006, it was brought back for another go by developer TellTale Games. In a surprise move, TellTale decided to release the game in “episodes” instead of the “first game, followed by expansion packs” formula. They would release a game for $8.95 that would be shorter than a standard game but kept the same style and humor the original Sam & Max did. TellTale has finished the first season, and PC owners can buy the entire compilation, which should be coming to the Wii shortly.
